Frequently Asked Questions About Fitness and Personal Training

Q: I see that you do online programming- how does that work?

A: When it comes to online programming, our trainers meet with you for a 15 minute online meeting where we discuss your goals, your health history, and what you’ve done in the past. Once that meeting is done, and you choose a program timeframe (3-6 month long program options available) we then send you a program with exercise video links. After that we track your body composition changes and strength gains in a personalized Excel spreadsheet that your coach updates weekly.

Q: What should I do to lose weight after pregnancy?

A: The answer varies. If you had surgery, like a c-section or a episiotomy, the answer is to do anything your body can handle once you’re cleared by your doctor. Then once that gets easier start to think about incorporating body weight exercises and maybe some cardio that’s easy on the joints (stationary biking or swimming). At KHS the post pregnancy weight loss program looks exactly like that- we meet you where you are in your postpartum journey and choose exercises that are good for weight loss and even pelvic floor strength.

Q: How much money is a personal trainer?

A: The price depends on the experience of the personal/fitness trainer, their education, certifications, and what clients are saying about them. Take into account if you’re going to their facility, they’re coming to your house, the time you’re looking to train for, or even if you’re meeting them online. Just like with anything, you get what you pay for.

Q: How come my doctor hasn’t talked to me about exercise postpartum?

A: Usually most doctors don’t. A study by showed that only 15% of women were told by their doctors to exercise postpartum (PMID:9271964). Why is that? Couldn’t say. But the research says to exercise when the body feels ready

Q: What exercises can be done when I’ve just been cleared to exercise after giving birth?

A: Whether with us, or on your own, we recommend starting with walking, body weight exercises, especially those involving strengthening the pelvic floor.

Q: How do I know I'm ready for training?

A: The answer is simple, if you've thought about improving your health and changing your body- it's time. If you’re a recent mother, the 6 week mark is usually where doctors recommend you start exercising. For those who had a c-sectoin the answer is sometimes a bit more than 6 weeks- listen to your body!

Q: What sort of equipment do I need to begin?

A: As we like to say, "all you need is a chair". And that is true. With just a chair we can do a whole 10 pack of sessions and never do the same workout twice. But if you are used to training and want equipment- don’t worry! We’ll bring it to you

Q: How do I know if it's a right fit for me?

A: Like with anything, you never know until you try. But at KSH we offer a free 30 minute session where we give you a great workout along with setting a timetable and actionable stepping stones to achieve your goals.

Q: How do we schedule sessions?

A: At KHS, we make sure that when you train with our team you're given options for sessions that work with your schedule (weekends and early mornings included). Just reach out and see what time slots work for you- we’re flexible.

Q: How do you track progress of weight loss and body composition changes?

A: Through the use of the "MyFitnessPal" app we not only guide you through your weight loss journey with real time tracking of your food journal, but also we do weekly "Recomposition Check-ups" meetings where we discuss issues you may be having, or new strategies that can be employed to further help.
